As families across the Highlands prepare themselves for Mother’s Day in lockdown on Sunday, March 14, some of the region’s leading independent and family run businesses on the world-famous North Coast 500 route have unveiled their special Mother’s Day menus and gift ideas for collection or local home delivery.

The Storehouse Farm Shop in Ross-shire, Mackays Hotel in Wick, The Redshank and Fish 'n' Collect in Inverness, and Inverness Coffee Roasting are all offering special menus and unique gifts to help mums celebrate their special day in the comfort of their own home.

Located on the world-famous North Coast 500 route and the banks of the Cromarty Firth, The Storehouse restaurant, farm shop and gift shop is enclosed in a fully-restored 18th century storehouse.

Throughout lockdown, The Storehouse has continued to operate its online farm shop to serve the Ross-shire community with a local collection and home delivery service, including afternoon teas and celebrations cakes, beers, ciders, spirits, biscuits, chocolates, condiments and sauces, cordials and soft drinks, Cromarty bakery bread, fruit and vegetables, dairy, handmade frozen meals, meat, fish and home baking, including gluten free.

The fantastically stocked farm shop is inspired by a love of farming and of great food. Specially selected products from near and far make this a must stop destination for gourmet treats. Close links with local farms means that The Storehouse has the freshest vegetables delivered daily, including delicious potatoes grown only a few fields away.

The Storehouse Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea

In time for Mother’s Day on Sunday 14th March, The Storehouse has launched a new Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea. All handmade in The Storehouse kitchen, this delicious afternoon tea includes a selection of sandwiches, homemade fruit and plain scones with Caithness jam and clotted cream, homemade quiche, mini meringue, macaron and a selection of Storehouse sweet bites. The Storehouse Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea is available for collection from The Storehouse or local home delivery is also available. £12.50 per person.

The new Storehouse Mother’s Day Cupcake Box is available for collection from The Storehouse or local home delivery is also available. The box includes four varieties of beautiful handmade cupcakes: red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting; juniper and lemon cupcake with a gin butter cream topping; hummingbird cupcake with cream cheese frosting; and vanilla cupcake with butter cream icing - priced at £9.95 per box.

Other Mother’s Day gift ideas available to buy direct from The Storehouse online shop, include an Emma Bridgewater Like Mother Like Daughter half pint mug. The Storehouse has also teamed up with local florist, Amanda Call, to offer a gorgeous hand tied bunch of flowers available for collection or delivery on Saturday, March 13 or Sunday, March 14.

Whether it’s your mum, step-mum or nan, there’s a someone in your life who deserves to be celebrated on Sunday 14th March.

The independent and family-run Mackays Hotel on the North Coast 500 in Wick has moved away from a traditional three-course meal and created a special afternoon tea with sweet and savoury treats. Priced at £12 per person, the afternoon tea includes finger sandwiches, sausage rolls, leek and cheddar tart, ham and tomato tart, layered lemon cake, chocolate mousse, scones, coconut date balls, shortbread and caramel filled doughnuts for collection and home delivery for people living in the Wick/Caithness area.

The Redshank, Inverness

Established by husband and wife, Jamie and Ann Marie Ross, in 2018, The Redshank is a mobile seafood catering trailer (food truck) based in the Highlands capital of Inverness on the North Coast 500, offering a 'street food' approach to freshly cooked, locally sourced seafood and produce.

They open their hatch at various points around the capital, local towns and villages serving the local community all year round. Classic dishes include Cullen skink, Shetland scallops and Stornoway black pudding, Kedgeree, Ox cheek in local stout and Orkney crab meat.

Fish 'n' Collect, Inverness

The Fish ‘n’ Collect Mother’s Day Cook at Home menu is now available online to purchase at www.fishncollect.com/shop. The ever-expanding offering ranges from fresh fish & shellfish, ready to re-heat home cooked meals, 'Redshank' meal kits, soups, sauces and much more.

They offer home deliveries around the local area of Inverness and surrounding villages, as well as safe collections from their production unit in Smithton.

Inverness Coffee Roasting are offering same day local deliveries around the Inverness area on the North Coast 500, including coffee beans, coffee-related gifts and loose leafed teas, for orders received before 3pm Monday to Friday.

Taken over by Kevin and Heather Donnachie five years ago, the team of seven at Inverness Coffee Roasting Co. is passionate about all-things coffee, especially the craft of teasing out the best in every bean. They carefully and ethically source green beans from the high lands of the world, skilfully roasting them in the Highlands of Scotland, show-casing the characteristics of each varietal.

Prior to lockdown Inverness Coffee Roasting Co. provided a friendly stopping place for coffee lovers, and although the shop is temporarily closed, coffee lovers still have ready access to a full range of roasted coffee beans from around the world (whole or ground to the customers specification) and regular subscription options, through the easy-to-navigate website or by picking up the phone and chatting about your coffee needs. Team Bean personally deliver in and around Inverness and post first class UK-wide.

Inverness Coffee Roasting Co also work closely with colleagues in the food, drink and hospitality industry, providing them with locally roasted coffee, barista equipment, coffee-related advice and training.
