More walking maps printed as Wick Paths Group work nights continue
Wick Paths Group’s map of local walking routes has proved so popular that thousands more copies are being printed.
The fold-out map, entitled Paths Around Wick, was launched in March with an initial print run of 2500. A donation of £600 from the North Highland Initiative has enabled the group to have another 5000 produced.
One side sets out details of walks of various lengths, from coastline to riverside, on paths that are maintained by the group, along with photos and information about points of interest. The other side features a detailed map of the Wick area with colour-coded directions for each route.
The map was designed by Inverness-based cartographer Helen Stirling. It is available free of charge from hotels and other outlets.
In a written report to the latest monthly meeting of the town’s community council, Wick Paths Group said it was very grateful to individuals who undertake litter-picking and other improvement works on their own initiative. The community group Wick Flowers also collected rubbish on a recent fundraising walk.
Two work nights were organised by Wick Paths Group during May, with a good turnout on each occasion. The work involved weeding, strimming and litter-picking, as well as washing benches.
The group’s AGM was held in the old herring mart during the month, with the following office-bearers re-elected: Willie Watt (chairman), Allan Bruce (vice-chairman), John Bogle (secretary) and Allan Tait (treasurer).
