Caithness hosted not one but two sheepdog trial events last week.

More than 80 dogs took part in the Mey and Watten events combined.

In the ladies' section at the Mey trials at Wester Farm, Dunnet, Wick High School head teacher Fiona MacDonald of Forss showed her class with her dog Jess – as well as defying the miserable weather – to produce a faultless display in racking up the highest points.

In the open section, international handler Michael Shearer, Lythmore, took first place on 110 points with his dog Tib. Second was Billy Morrison of Shetland with Nell on 106 while third went to Muir Grant of Forss with Cashlie on 104.

Meanwhile at Watten, trial conditions were again far from ideal but the dogs and their handlers were not deterred with a fine displays aplenty.

Youngsters Muir Grant of Forss and Daniel Worthington of Scarfskerry were in excellent form throughout. The former won the Caithness class with Cashlie while the latter was successful in the novice class with Ace.

Michael Davidson of Northumberland won the open event with his dog Angus.
