MY HOPES FOR 2022: Councillor Matthew Reiss, Thurso and Northwest Caithness

Additional funding to upgrade the local road network will be a top priority as far as Highland councillor Matthew Reiss is concerned.

He is also keen to see greater support for mental health and for policing as well as measures to promote tourism.

Councillor Reiss, who represents Thurso and Northwest Caithness, said he would like to see more mental health provision identified by the NHS – "not necessarily top qualified psychiatric and psychological staff, but mental health nurses to get some help as quickly as possible".

He hopes to see additional support for policing, "particularly getting Thurso Police Station open to the public more often".

To encourage tourism, Councillor Reiss would like to see money for town centre signage, a simplified funding process for brown tourist information signs and a good season for Thurso's North Coast Visitor Centre, formerly Caithness Horizons.

He added: "Over and above all these, more funding is essential for roads, which affects everything that happens in the county."

Councillor Reiss is one of a number of elected representatives, business leaders and others who have been asked to sum up their main aspirations for the coming year.
