Monumental moment at Loch Sarclet as veteran model yacht Eviedon wins

It was a historic day for Wick Model Yachting Club on Saturday, June 1 when Eviedon took to the water at Sarclet Loch for the first time in almost 90 years.

Drew Robertson had kept it for many years as his family have a long connection with the club. It had been bought from Donald Bain Anderson who named it after his son and daughter – Donald and Evelyn (postmistress in Pulteney for many years).

Drew’s brother Willie, nephew Graham and great-nephew Adam continue the family tradition and Adam asked if he could sail the yacht. Drew was delighted to hand it over and on Saturday it took part in the William Miller Memorial Cup and won. The family were delighted and Graham said the Eviedon will be in contention for years to come.

Results: 1 Eviedon – Adam Robertson; 2 Kindling – Kevin Paterson; 3 Pioneer – Peter Sinclair.

A small but enthusiastic crowd enjoyed the days racing joined by visitors from throughout the county. The current season concludes on Saturday, June 8 when all boats compete to win two trophies – the William Sinclair Memorial Cup and the 1903 Cup.
