Mixed fortunes for community councils in Caithness after collapse of Thurso group

There was mixed news for community councils hoping to form in Caithness, as one was successful and the other came up short of numbers.

Bower and Sinclair’s Bay had been hoping to form or re-form a community council in the latest round of interim elections.

Highland Council has now confirmed that Sinclair’s Bay has received sufficient nominations and will form uncontested.

However, Bower failed to form after it did not attract the required numbers to stand as community councillors.

It comes after mass resignations at Thurso Community Council means that the group has gone into abeyance. The two remaining community councillors for the area are Alexander Glasgow and Ian Carlisle.

There will be an opportunity for Thurso CC, along with Bower, to re-form when the next round of interim elections is held in August.

Other community councils in the Highlands which will form uncontested are: Carrbridge Community Council; Kilmuir and Logie Easter; Portree and Braes; Resolis; and Tannach and District.

Those which failed to form alongside Bower are: Conon Bridge; Lochalsh and Smithton.
