A MAN who suffers from learning disabilities has been found safe and well after going missing from a nursing home.

Adam Aitken (91) sparked a major search operation after he disappeared from Forse House Nursing Home in Latheron on Tuesday night.

Mr Aitken failed to return to the premises after going out for a walk at 6pm. After carrying out an internal search which failed to locate him, staff contacted the police.

Coastguard, mountain rescue and an RAF helicopter searched the area for three hours before Mr Aitken was found within the nursing home grounds at 10.30pm.

He was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where he was treated for shock but was unharmed.

A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said: "A police dog subsequently found the man nearby suffering from the ill effects of the weather but otherwise safe and well."
