‘Miserable’ thief made off with a charity cash box
“MISERABLE” was the word used to describe a man who made off with a charity box from a bakery shop in Thurso.
Paul Cannop was jailed after he admitted stealing the box and its contents from Jamieson Bakery during a crime spree in the town on Wednesday, September 27.
He has also admitted stealing a pair of shorts from The Original Factory Shop, and attempting to steal a mountain bike from outside the Grove Lounge in Thurso.
The 23-year-old appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court yesterday for sentencing.
Sheriff Andrew Berry accused Cannop of not taking responsibility for his actions, and blasted him for stealing money meant for good causes.

“It is the most miserable of crimes to steal a charity box,“ he told Cannop.
“Also the fact that you’re a very bad thief is of no consequence whatsoever.”
Cannop, of Holborn Avenue, Thurso was jailed for four months.
