Wick Airport continues to see an increase in passenger numbers.

WICK Airport has continued to see the number of passengers passing through its doors rise when compared to figures from 12 months ago.

Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd today released figures showing Wick has enjoyed the biggest improvement out of all its airports compared to 2010, with a 13.9 per cent rise in those using air services to Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

The increase has been attributed to last month’s mild weather compared to last year when heavy snow forced the cancellation of several flights.

It was revealed 2507 passengers used Wick Airport last month, an increase of 305 from November 2010.

Managing director for HIAL Inglis Lyon said the lack of snow and ice, together with the appeal of the Highlands as a tourist destination, has helped figures rise.

"In terms of weather, we are fortunate to have had a milder November than last year, which has had a positive impact on numbers," he said.

Passenger numbers for the year are also up significantly with 19,226 using the airport since January compared to 18,091 during the same period last year.
