The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of ice for Caithness and the rest of the Highlands from 6pm tonight until 9am tomorrow.

A mixture of wintry showers and clear spells are likely to lead to a cold night with some icy stretches developing on untreated surfaces.

Residents are being told to expect icy patches on some untreated roads and pavements with injuries from slips and falls a possibility.

A yellow warning of ice is also in place throughout the Highlands from Saturday 6pm to Sunday 9am.

Meanwhile Storm Eunice is causing significant disruption and dangerous conditions due to extremely strong winds in the south of England. The Met Office has issued rare red weather warnings for some areas with wind gusts in exposed coastal areas predicted to be in excess of 90mph.
