The Met Office has a Yellow Warning in place over the next few days as it warns of frequent snow showers impacting Caithness during the period.

Its bulletin states: "Frequent wintry showers, mainly of snow, will feed into northern Scotland during this period.

"A few centimetres of snow are likely at low levels over a given 24-hour period, with the potential for 10-15cm above 200 metres, especially across parts of the Highlands. Ice will be additional hazard, especially Tuesday night."

Highland Council posted a road report for Caithness at 8.49am stating: "All routes affected by up to 2" snow and hard packed on main routes, blading where necessary and drifting in parts of the Dunbeath area, all routes being treated and footpaths also getting treatment by priority."

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
