The bulletin posted at 10.28am today states that strong winds could lead to some transport disruption on Friday evening and overnight.

It adds: "Strong Westerly winds, becoming North or Northwesterly, with gusts of 60 to 70mph likely, mainly around the coasts and over high ground. Temperatures will fall away and icy patches are likely to develop this evening and overnight on any untreated surfaces. Snow showers will also affect far north and northwest Scotland giving a few centimetres in places, mainly over high ground."

What to expect

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
