THE Met Office has issued a yellow warning of wind for the Highlands in a fresh alert issued this evening.

The latest weather warning is due to kick in at 2am on Sunday morning and extends to 2pm in the afternoon.

The yellow warning – the least severe in a colour coded system that escalates to amber and red – means that strong winds expected to cause some travel delays and difficult driving conditions.

It means delays in road, air and ferry transport "are likely" and that there could be delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.

Tonight's forecast says it will be "rather unsettled overnight with strong winds and frequent blustery showers".

Winds will be gale force in places and showers will be rather heavy at time, falling wintry on the hills.

The forecast for Sunday sees strong winds continue through the morning with gales in places.

It will be largely cloudy with frequent heavy showers. Winds will ease through the afternoon with a few brighter spells developing.
