Mental wellbeing focus at Noss end-of-term assembly
There was a strong focus on promoting mental wellbeing as pupils, families and staff gathered for the end-of-term assembly at Noss Primary School in Wick.
It coincided with World Mental Health Day, which is celebrated every year on October 10.
Head teacher Fraser Thomson said: “Positive mental wellbeing is an important part of our daily lives and it is important that we look after our own and others’ mental wellbeing – whether that be by exercising, spending time with friends or having a conversation with someone.”
Pupils and staff wore the colour yellow to acknowledge the importance of promoting mental wellbeing.
Members of the school netball club opened the assembly by doing their club warm-up dance. This was followed by pupils performing on the piano and a science experiment demonstrating a volcanic eruption using Mentos and cola.
Mhari Ann Plowman, who works at Dounreay, presented the school with 80 high-visibility vests in support of the Noss school bike train.

The weekly cycle-to-school initiative, trialled as a partnership between Noss Primary School and national charity Cycling UK, has become increasingly popular.
Pupils are accompanied by adult leaders on a route that starts in Staxigoe. A total of 135 cyclists took part in the last weekly bike train for this year, with local MSP Maree Todd joining in.
Mr Thomson thanked Mrs Plowman – who was supported by the Dounreay Employees Charity Fund and Martin Nicolson, of Dunnet-based industrial supplier Blargoans – and highlighted the value of local individuals, businesses and organisations supporting ventures such as the school bike train.
