Memories of Michael, held in memory of Michael McNeill from Wick, attracted hundreds of people and raised over £2400 that will go towards research into syringomyelia and Chiari malformation – conditions which affect the nervous system.

The event was organised by his aunt Margaret Macleod (42), of Macrae Street.

It was hailed a great success, with the bottle stall making £300 and selling out within the first hour.

An auction was also held, raising £700, with the rest of the total being made up through donations.

Landward Caithness councillor Willie Mackay acted as compere for the evening and said Mrs Macleod had done a fantastic job in highlighting these medical conditions.

“The people of Wick and beyond who came along to support this special evening were so generous and every one of them was there for the cause,” he said.

“They had no hesitation in bidding for items and paying up to double their face value.

“It was a great pleasure, along with my wife Glynis, to be involved in the memorial event for the charity.”
