Schoolchildren from a north coast primary have donated 92 gift boxes to help a Highland-based charity bring some festive cheer to people in need across eastern Europe.

Pupils at Melvich Primary School and ELC teamed up with members of the community to collect presents for Blythswood's annual Christmas shoebox appeal.

They brought together small gifts for a range of ages, from babies through to teenagers and adults. Items included hats, gloves, warm socks, toiletries, mouth organs, pocket games, stationery goods and sweets.

Principal teacher Amanda Mackay said: “We are delighted by the generous response of the pupils and the wider community and hope these shoeboxes bring some Christmas cheer to those less fortunate than ourselves."

Boxes are going to Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine.
