A FAR North train bound for Inverness was cancelled this morning (Tuesday).

The 8.12am Wick to Inverness ScotRail service was called off due to a “mechanical failure”.

A ScotRail spokesman said: “Alternative transport was provided and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The earlier 6.20am service departed and arrived on time.

Meanwhile, a Far North bus service has been affected by adverse road conditions.

Stagecoach’s X99 service which left Inverness at 12.30pm bound for Thurso is running up to 15 minutes late.

Northern Constabulary is also advising drivers to be careful when out and about as the A9 at Causewaymire is affected by snow as are many side roads in the county.

Bus services in Orkney have also been affected by heavy snow showers overnight.

The runway at Wick Airport was reported clear just before midday with two morning departures to Aberdeen getting away safely and one arrival from the city.

The morning flight to Edinburgh was on time as well.
