International Drivers Association (IDA) has teamed up with former mechanic Steve Larsson to find out the most common MOT scams that we might be overcharged thousands on.

According to IDA research, some rogue mechanics may exaggerate the severity of:

  • Wear on brake pads
  • Misalignment of wheels
  • Engine flushes
  • Fuel system cleaning
  • Transmission fluid changes

to make unnecessary repairs seem urgent and overcharge customers.

To provide some expert insight on this issue, Steve Larsson has commented: "As a mechanic, I know that proper vehicle maintenance is essential for safe driving.

"However, it's important to be aware of rogue mechanics who may try to take advantage of customers by exaggerating the severity of problems and recommending unnecessary repairs. It's always a good idea to get a second opinion if you're unsure about a repair, and to choose a reputable mechanic or garage with a good reputation and industry certifications.

"Unfortunately, we get a lot of younger drivers who come to us for second opinions"
