A LYBSTER woman has raised £800 for the Caithness maternity unit by making and selling masks as protection against Covid-19.

Janet Ross is an early years practitioner at Lybster nursery school (early learning centre) and created the masks for friends and family before putting them up for sale at D&S Henderson's shop in the village.

The masks are on sale with a suggested charity donation of £3 and proceeds are earmarked for the community midwifery unit at Caithness General Hospital in Wick.

Children who attend the early learning centre in Lybster handed the £800 cheque over to interim senior charge midwife Cara Birnie.

Cara said: "Everyone at the Caithness community midwifery unit would like to thank Janet Ross for such an amazing gesture.

"This is an incredibly generous donation and it is very much appreciated by us all. We have been overwhelmed with all the support and kindness that has been shown towards all our maternity staff during this time and will ensure that this donation is put to good use within our maternity ward."
