Mart Prices – Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts

Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts, August 16, sold 6262 prime and store lambs.

In the D R Alexander & Son sponsored show and sale of ewe lambs, champion single in the half-bred section judged by David Moir, Home Farm Cairness, Fraserburgh was from D Coghill, Tofts of Tain, Castletown and sold for £250 to the judge.

Champion pen of 10 from A Miller & Sons, Aimster, Thurso sold for £210 to the judge on behalf of Jack Symth, Northern Ireland.

Champion single in the North Country Cheviot section was from J S Baillie & Co, Sebay Farm, Tankerness and sold for £350 to H P Sleigh & Son, St John’s Wells, Fyvie.

Champion pen of 10 also from J S Baillie & Co sold for £250 to Morrison & Mustard, Hillhead, Birnie.

Champion single in the any other breed section was a Beltex from J Swanson, Framside and sold for £155 to the judge.

Champion pen of 10 were Texels from J M Sutherland & Sons, Borrowston Mains, Dounreay and sold for £118 to D Manson & Sons, 3 Skaill, Dounreay.

H B Ewe lambs (777) averaged £166.33 (+ £33.44 on the year) to £240 from Osclay, 21 Francis Street, Wick.

Chev ewe lambs (432) averaged £154.04 (+ £55.14) to £380 from Cairnside, 36 Oldhall, Watten.

Cross ewe lambs (805) averaged £102.38 (+ £9) to £168 for Suffolk crosses from Granton Mains, Bower.

HB wdr lambs (81) averaged £85.44 (+£22.64) to £104.50 from Tain, Castletown (Bremner).

Chev wdr lambs (346) averaged £74.07 (+ £11.27) to £96.50 from Tormore, Dunbeath.

Cross lambs (3,751) averaged £77.80 (+£ 6.86) to £97 for Suffolks from Balnahard, Harpsdale.

Prime lambs (62) averaged 235.9p per kg to 241.3p for 46kg Texels from Clachan, Mid-Clyth, Lybster and £117 gross for 49kg Texels from West Watten, Watten (Thomson).

Feeding Ewes & Rams (8) sold to £145 for a North Country Cheviot Ram from The Maltings, Thurso.

“Another record smashed with a staggering averaged of £166.33 for 777 Half-Bred ewe lambs which were shown in full bloom and were short of buyers requirements yet again.

"Cheviot ewe lambs were a very even show with many lots exceeding sellers’ expectations.

"Cross ewe lambs met a excellent fast selling trade with many buyers going home empty handed.

"A strong show of continental lambs were forward and met an exceptional trade.”
