Mart prices from Quoybrae and Thainstone

QUOYBRAE: Aberdeen and Northern Marts (May 4) sold 137 store cattle and 115 prime and store sheep.

Bullocks (81) averaged 219.2p per kg to 275.7p for a pen of five 301kg Charolais crosses from Gillock Mains and £1090 gross for a 502kg Limousin cross from Quintfall, Lyth.

Heifers (56) averaged 226.5p per kg to 275.8p for a pen of six 310kg Charolais crosses from Gillock Mains and £1005 for a 453kg Limousin cross from Quintfall.

Old season prime lambs (17) sold to 183.3p for 42kg Cheviots from Skinnet, Halkirk, and £86 gross 58kg Suffolks from East End, John O’Groats.

Old season store lambs (39) to £77 for Continentals from Gansclett, Thrumster.

Feeding ewes and rams (59) to £80 for Cheviots from The Maltings, Thurso.

Grazing stirks met a fast-selling trade and more could have been sold to the sellers’ advantage.

Heifers up to 300kg – Rockhill, Wick £650, 221.8p; 301-350kg – Gillock Mains £880, 265.1p; 351-400kg – Durran Mains £945, 239.8p; 401-450kg – Durran Mains £930, 225.7p; 451-500kg – Quoyshakes, Bilbster £930, Quintfall 221.9p.

THAINSTONE: Aberdeen and Northern Marts (May 1) sold 265 store cattle from Caithness, Ross-shire and Sutherland.

Store cattle (265):

Bullocks to a top of 251p per kilo for a pair of 370kg Limousin crosses and £1105 gross per head for a pair of Simmental crosses from W & A Oag, Scrabster House.

Heifers to a top of 242.2p per kilo for a pen of three 330kg Limousin crosses from A Mackay & Son, Strath Farm, Watten, and £1105 gross for a two 500kg Limousin cross from W & A Oag, Scrabster House.

Bullocks: 301-350kg – Strath Farm £850, £840; 351-400kg – Scrabster House £955, £930; Strath Farm £880, £875, £870, £840; Cyderhall £835, £820; 401-450kg – Scrabster House £1025, £975, £965; Strath Farm £925, £905; East Kirk £900 451-500kg – Strath Farm £1085; Cyderhall £1015; Scrabster House £1005; East Kirk £1000.
