Maree Todd has praised Thurso Community Development Trust for its "twin focus on sustainability and community".

The SNP MSP for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross was speaking after being given a guided tour of the trust's projects.

“It was a pleasure to meet with Helen Allan and Stephanie Remers from Thurso Community Development Trust to hear about the fantastic community initiatives they are leading on, including the Sharing Shed and the community garden," Ms Todd said.

“I was thoroughly impressed with the Socially Growing shop too – a socially and environmentally conscious social enterprise which promotes a sustainable local food system and plastic-free shopping.

“Socially Growing also places a huge emphasis on training and employment opportunities, working to develop and progress core job skills for marginalised folk in the community. It’s inspiring to see the twin focus on sustainability and community."

Ms Todd added: “Thurso Community Development Trust and its dedicated team of volunteers are an asset to the Thurso community. I know that they were at the heart of the local Covid-19 response, where they worked around the clock to protect and support vulnerable members of their community, and they have not let up since.”

Trust chairperson Helen Allan said: “We were delighted to show Maree our many and varied projects, and we were pleased with her appreciation of all the hard work put in by Thurso Community Development Trust and our many volunteers.”
