Mandolin is music to charity’s ears

A NORTH instrument maker is hoping a mandolin he made will raise as much money as possible for a charity.

The mandolin, which was made by Dick Levens and signed by Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, is being auctioned to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Dick, who was brought up in Wick but now lives in Orkney, was commissioned by Pepwell Films to create the mandolin. He completed a stained-glass course at a college on the islands and decided to incorporate the feature into the mandolin to make it different.

“I hope it makes as much money as possible for the trust as it does a real good job,” said Dick.
