John Begg was sentenced to four months in prison.

“THANK YOU VERY MUCH” was the response from John Begg as he was escorted by police out of Wick Sheriff Court to begin his jail sentence.

He was sentenced to four months behind bars on Friday after admitting breaching his order for failing to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the community which was imposed on him after being found guilty of headbutting Stephen Walls in Wick two years ago.

Begg (24) of Macrae Street, Wick appeared in Court last month when he was given a final chance to abide by the order after it was reported he had only completed two hours of unpaid work.

At Wick Sheriff Court on Friday, his solicitor Neil Wilson said there had been no progress in him abiding by the terms of his order and had given up on attempts to keep his client’s freedom.

“He is clearly incapable of applying the structures which others put on him,” he said.

“All I can ask is to mitigate any length of sentence.

“I have looked for a silver lining among dark clouds and i’m finding none.”

Sheriff Andrew Berry wasted little time in sending Begg to Prison saying due to the history of the case, the only thing he could do was impose a custodial sentence.
