A Wick man dumped by his online girlfriend sent her an explicit photo of himself in a bid to win her back.

However she did not appreciate the gesture and this week in court he pleaded guilty to sending an indecent image.

Daniel Macrury (34), who also admitted a record of previous offending, was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid community work.

Wick Sheriff Court heard that he had made contact with a woman on an online dating site.

Fiscal David Barclay told Wick Shreiff Court that by the end of last year the relationship appeared to be progressing, so much so that Macrury, of Battery Road, Wick, was "keen" to move matters and suggested they should meet up.

The woman, however, thought they should take things "a little slower" and "didn't really know each other".

Mr Barclay said she subsequently decided she did not want to pursue matters and did not want any further contact with the accused .

On January 21 she noticed that Macrury had sent her a photo that showed him sitting on a sofa with his underwear pulled down and his private parts in full view.

Mr Barclay said: "'Miss X' had not said or done anything to suggest that she wanted such conduct or communication.

"When spoken to by the police Macrury said that the relationship had cooled off and he was trying to do something to kick-start the romance but accepted that, clearly, he had done something completely inappropriate."

Solicitor Sylvia Maclennan referred to a "helpful" background report on Macrury who, she said, had been "making strides" with his intention to put things behind him and make a fresh start in Caithness.

She said the accused was "very much depressed and down" about finding himself in the criminal court system again.

Sheriff Mark O' Hanlon ordered Macrury to undertake 100 hours of unpaid work while under supervision.

The accused was also placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for three years and made subject to a one-year non-harassment order banning him from contacting or approaching "Miss X".
