A CAITHNESS man has been sent to jail after he admitted possessing a class "C" drug.

Raymond Starbuck (30), of Willowbank, Wick, pleaded guilty to having 5015 tablets of diazapam at his home on October 28.

Solicitor Alex Burn told Wick Sheriff Court today (Friday, July 22) that Starbuck arranged for a parcel containing the tablets to be delivered to his home to pay off a drug debt.

The parcel was addressed in another person’s name but Starbuck admitted he knew what was in it and that he signed for it.

Police searched his home after acting on information received.

The value of the drugs was said to be worth between £2500 and £5000.

Sheriff Andrew Berry told the accused that what he had done was very serious and appropriate action needed to be taken.

"It might well only be class ‘C’ drugs you had in your possession," he said. "But you will have to understand if that you choose to be involved there have to be consequences.

"A message also has to go out that if anyone chooses to take part in these activities, there have to be consequences."

Starbuck was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment.
