A MAN has been taken to hospital after he was left injured when water pipes burst at a block of flats in Wick.

The incident occurred at Battery Road at 9.30am when the pipes burst within the top floor.

It is believed only two of the flats were occupied when the incident happened, but one man was taken to hospital.

The extent of his injuries are unknown.

Residents in the block of flats, owned by Albyn Housing Society, are being housed in temporary accommodation while repairs are carried out.

One of the neighbours, who was at home at the time of the incident, said the flats were connected to the Ignis Biomass heating system.

Fire crews are cleaning out the flats which have been left soaked as a result of the incident.
