Man dies in Helmsdale blaze





ONE man has died in a house fire in Helmsdale which broke out on Saturday afternoon when 20 firefighters were involved in tackling the blaze.

Firefighters from Dunbeath, Golspie and Helmsdale were called to the blaze in Trentham Street when they wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to tackle the outbreak and search for the occupant.

He was found and stretchered on to an air ambulance but died from his injuries.

It was also confirmed that two dogs were also found dead within the house.

Incident Commander Ricky Dibble said: “This was obviously a very difficult and serious fire to deal with but the fire crews worked tirelessly throughout.

“Their professionalism is to be commended as the rescue was carried out quickly and effectively in extremely adverse conditions.”
