Dunbeath man caught driving on A9 two months into ban given last chance

A sheriff has warned a man who drove while disqualified that a repeat of the offence could attract a prison sentence.

Calum Steven pleaded guilty at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday and was banned from driving for a year. The 27-year-old was also fined £400.

The offence occurred on the A9, at Dunbeath, on March 11 – less than two months after he was banned.

Steven, of Auchorn Road, Dunbeath, was also found to be uninsured.

Sheriff Neil Wilson described driving while disqualified as “a contempt of a court order” and “a serious matter” and warned Steven that if he returned to the court on the same type of offence “all sentencing options would be open”.

The accused’s licence was endorsed on the insurance charge.
