Colin MacNeil (38) used bleach or a similar liquid on the garden pond.

The case, at Wick Sheriff Court today, was continued for a background report until June 22, when Sheriff James Mulgrew will hear details of the incident that occurred at an address in Mackay Street, Castletown on March 25.

However, MacNeil’s solicitor, George Mathers, informed the court that there had been a “history of animosity” between the owner of the pond and the accused.

MacNeil, of Calder Square, Castletown, also admitted a previous record of offending.

Sheriff Mulgrew called for the accused to be assessed for his suitability for a restriction of liberty order.
