Scottish supergroup Mànran will be bringing their unique brand of traditional music to Caithness next month. Having been rescheduled from December due to low ticket sales, the band are set to play on May 5 at The Waterfront in Wick.

However, event organiser Highland Castle Entertainment are now fearing that the same thing is about to happen again as only 40 tickets out of a 1000 capacity have been sold. The organisers are now encouraging people to come along and support the event, so that they can keep bringing class-acts to the far-north.

Highland Castle Event’s organiser, Chris Boxall said: “We rearranged Mànran’s previous dates because of poor ticket sales, and in all honesty we are struggling with the same thing again.

“It’s strange as we are also hosting them in Orkney the night after and ticket sales have gone really well there.”

The Highland-based event organiser is passionate about bringing local music, comedy and theatre to rural areas. For them bringing a world-renown act like Mànran to the area is about bringing something to the community who would normally have to travel miles to see an act like it.

“I have worked in music for years, and the music scene in Caithness used to be well attended, but its dropped dramatically”, explained Mr Boxall.

“We need people supporting live music, otherwise it will die a death. It really is a case of use it or lose it.”

Mànran have been at the forefront of the Scottish traditional music scene for over a decade. The Wick date is part of an extensive tour taking in venues in the UK and Europe and it promises to be an unmissable night for live music fans from across the region.

They played on BBC1’s Hogmanay show and alongside Lewis Capaldi so it is a rare treat for Caithness residents to have a class act in their area.

The support act for the evening is local young band Fèis air an Oir, so it is a great opportunity for smaller acts to be showcased on a wider stage. The event on May 5 will also raise funds for the local RNLI Wick Station, as Highland Castle Entertainment continues to support the valuable work the charity does across the region.

Mr Boxall added: “We are a small business, and it costs money to bring acts like this up to the area. We want to keep being able to provide locals with the entertainment that they deserve so I would really urge people to come out and support us.

“It’s tough times for everyone, and for the entertainment business too. We would love to see a full crowd at the Mànran gig in May, so please come out for a good old knees-up, like we are known for up here!”

Tickets cost £22 + £25 (seated). Call 0800 999 4441 or they can be purchased from www.ticketsource.co.uk.

Doors open at 7pm for 8pm start.
