Lyth Arts Centre celebrates the sandy shores of Caithness
Lyth Arts Centre’s ‘Between Two Beaches’ programme celebrates the centre's unique location between two of the county's most famous and beautiful beaches.
Lyth Arts Centre (LAC) sits directly between the beaches of Dunnet Bay to the north and Sinclair’s Bay to the east. Caithness itself points to the meeting point of the North Sea and the Atlantic. As part of the nationwide ‘Beach of Dreams Festival’, LAC invites the public to celebrate “our unique coastal environment”.
An LAC spokesperson said: “With workshops, talks and events drawing inspiration from our shoreline, Between Two Beaches will explore what it means to be in-between and connected.”
Events include an evening discussion with David Gange (author of the award-winning The Frayed Atlantic Edge), a unique camera workshop for young people aged 12-17 where participants will build recycled pinhole cameras, forage for natural developing materials and develop pinhole photographs with local ingredients and The Toddler Museum of Things – a unique look at the county’s coastline through the inquisitive eyes of a toddler.
Events will take place throughout June and July across the Caithness beaches and at LAC. Events are free to attend, but booking is essential; spaces are limited, so make sure to book in advance.
Tickets can booked via LAC’s website.
There are still some events that are yet to be released so keep an eye on LAC’s Facebook and Instagram pages or you can sign up to receive mail updates at: lytharts.org.uk/
