A woman thought she was OK to drive after having a couple of drinks at lunchtime in Thurso a court was told.

However, a roadside breath test proved positive and the follow-up test revealed April Bremner was over the legal limit, Wick Sheriff Court heard.

Bremner (23) admitted having driven with excess alcohol on September 7 last year, on the A882 near Haster, and a previous record of offending.

Her breath-alcohol reading was 37mg – the legal limit is 22mg.

Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that Bremner, of Willowbank, Wick, had misjudged the amount of the alcohol she had taken before heading home and "now must face the consequences".

The accused was fined £300 and banned from driving for a year.
