Louise goes extra mile for RNLI
Louise Charlton celebrates completing the Edinburgh Marathon with her mother, Jennifer, who was on hand to lend her support.
BY going the extra mile for charity a local woman has raised money for a vital service in the county.
Louise Charlton, from Thurso, took part in the Edinburgh Marathon last month to raise the money for the town’s RNLI lifeboat.
No stranger to competing in long-distance events, this was the third time that the 28-year old had taken part in a marathon.
She had twice completed the London Marathon while living in the city for five years.

Having recently moved back to the area, Louise said that she wanted to do something for a local cause.
“I had been away from Caithness for 10 years through university and work,” she said. “I recently moved back home to start up my own business here.
“I had planned to take part in the Edinburgh Marathon with a friend. It was important for me to take part in the event to raise money for a worthwhile cause that was local.
“The Thurso RNLI perform such a vital service that they were the obvious choice for me. The work they do is just amazing and they deserve to get as much support as they can get.”
Describing her third marathon as “horrendous”, Louise said that she has officially hung up running shoes.
She completed the course in a time of four hours and 56 minutes and managed to raise over £1000 for the RNLI.
While she was disappointed with the time, which was slower than expected because of a knee injury sustained whilst training, she was still thrilled to complete the course.
“When I suffered the knee injury, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to compete,” she said. “But I had already set my sights on finishing the race and if there was any chance that I could achieve my goal I would do it.”
Louise was cheered on to the finish line by her mum, Jennifer, and friends who went to Edinburgh to give her support.
