TWO Caithness sports clubs have been awarded £4000 from the National Lottery.

Caithness Disability Multi-Sport and Lybster Junior Football Club each received £2000 from the Big Lottery Fund.

Caithness Disability Multi-Sport provides support for people with disabilities to take part in sport and recreational activities.

The project, based in Castletown, focuses on a range of sports. The grant will fund 100 T-shirts, coaching costs and volunteer expenses.

The funding for Lybster Junior FC will go towards delivering SFA level 1 and 2 courses, goalposts and nets, as well as footballs and training kit.

The awards are part of the 2014 communities programmes which aim to widen participation and encourage sport throughout Scotland in the run-up to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.

The awards to the two clubs were welcomed by Caithness, Sutherland and Ross MSP Rob Gibson.

He said: “This is a good win for both Caithness Disability Multi-Sport and Lybster Junior FC. The idea behind the 2014 communities fund is to widen participation and access to sports for many people across Scotland. It would be part of the legacy left by the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.”

“This money will offer access to physical activity as well as provide positive experiences.”

The SNP MSP added: “I would encourage other groups across Caithness to apply for this 2014 funding as the pot is not yet empty and funding will continue until the start of the Commonwealth Games in 2014.”
