THE county’s only guest at the wedding of the decade has said it is a huge privilege to represent the area.

Lord-Lieutenant of Caithness Anne Dunnett will attend the marriage of Prince William and Catherine Middleton which takes place today.

She will be at the ceremony in Westminster Abbey with Lord-Lieutenant of Sutherland Dr Monica Main.

The pair flew from Inverness Airport to London yesterday morning for the occasion.

Talking about the day she was invited to the wedding, Miss Dunnett said that she was completely overwhelmed.

"I received the invitation through the post in February," she said. "When I opened the letter, I was thrilled and surprised as there is very limited seating available at Westminster Abbey.

"I still have the envelope which willI keep forever.

"It is not often in my lifetime I will receive an invite to such a grand event."

She added: "I replied back confirming my attendance and I received an admittance card two weeks ago which will allow me to enter the abbey."

After the ceremony, Miss Dunnett and Dr Main will be the guests of the Lord-Lieutenant of London at the city’s Royal Overseas Club.

Guests will enjoy a buffet lunch and watch the rest of the wedding day on a giant television screen.

This is not the first time that Miss Dunnett has been invited to some of the royal family’s most momentous occasions.

She attended the Queen’s 80th birthday church service at St Paul’s Cathedral in 2006 and she was also the guest of the Queen and Prince Phillip when they held their 60th anniversary service at Westminster Abbey in 2007.

Looking forward to the wedding, the lord-lieutenant said it will be a day that she is sure she will never forget.

"I think I am the only person who will be attending from Caithness," she said. "It is a great honour to represent the county.

‘I’m particularly looking forward to hearing the music from military bands and buglers. Just the whole atmosphere will be unforgettable."

She added that Prince William and Kate appear to be the perfect couple.

"I definitely approve of William and Kate as they seem to be very suited to each other," she said.

"Maybe I am being a wee bit prejudiced, but this is something the whole nation should celebrate together.

"It is lovely for everyone to enjoy such a wonderful occasion amidst the difficulties that are going on the world just now."
