A dog was loose without a muzzle or lead when it bit a dog walker and his dog, Wick Sheriff Court heard on Tuesday.

Terence Pace (67) admitted that his dog, a boxer, was dangerously out of control. The accused will be sentenced in June.

Wick Sheriff Court heard that the victim, Matthew Baillie, was walking his dog and had entered Macrae Street where he noticed a gate beside one of the houses was open and the white and brown coloured boxer, without harness or lead, had walked into the middle of the road.

Fiscal Grant MacLennan said that Mr Baillie knocked on Pace's door to alert him about his dog being loose.

The fiscal continued: "The boxer noticed Mr Baillie's dog and attacked it, biting it a few times. Mr Baillie tried to keep Blake away but it bit him on the left hand."

Mr Baillie was treated in hospital for the wound, which broke the skin, and he also sustained bruising.

Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that Blake had been in a fenced area where it didn't require a muzzle or lead but had unfortunately, and unknown to its owner, managed to escape through the gate which was open at the time.

Pace, of Macrae Street, Wick, was made subject to a good behaviour order and Sheriff Wilson will consider a vet's report on Blake before passing sentence on June 26.
