PEBBLES Sawyer from Wick has never met a man called David McPeake.

Yet the story of the two-year-old’s battle with spina bifida and hydrocephalus since birth has touched the father-of-two who lives almost 700 miles away.

And in April Mr McPeake will run the London Marathon with a target to raise at least £1500 to buy a special bike for Pebbles who, paralysed from the waist down, can pedal using her hands.

Pebbles’ mother, Lana, cannot get over the kind gesture from Mr McPeake – a complete stranger to the family.

The 26-year-old launched an online campaign to raise funds to buy a wheelchair for Pebbles which caught Mr McPeake’s attention. He asked if he could help but thanks to a donation from a Caithness-based spina bifida and hydrocephalus charity, the family was able to afford the wheelchair.

However, Mr McPeake, from London, was so moved by Pebbles’ story that he still wanted to do something for her.
