In the late eighteenth century, when Sir Robert Anstruther bought the estate of Watten and Bridgend, he took with him from Fife his horses and carts, his ploughmen, his blacksmith and his miller. The latter was Peter Macadam and the family continued as millers at Watten Mill for six generations.

One of Peter’s descendants, David Macadam, will be the speaker at CFHS’ next meeting. The title of the talk is ‘The Families of Watten Mills’. It will be of interest to all those who enjoy both family and local history.

David Macadam will give a talk about Watten Mill on Tuesday, May 14, at Watten Village Hall. Picture supplied

The society can be contacted at enquiries@caithnessfhs.org.uk and has a website and Facebook page.

CFHS has also taken delivery of its latest publication, which has info and photos about Ulbster Burial Ground.
