TWO local businesswomen who wanted to give something back to the community have contributed £500 to Caithness Foodbank after running their own fundraiser.
Erin Macleod, who runs a small millinery business from her home in Castletown, teamed up with her friend, local hairdresser Helaina Rosie, to put together a prize of luxury hair products, a high-fashion headpiece and a bottle of prosecco.
Grant Ramsay, chairperson of Caithness Foodbank, said: “I’m delighted with yet another donation from our community. The girls have done a great job with their fundraiser and it has proved a success.
"We are kept busy at both Caithness centres and the money will be put to good use to replenish our stock. Many thanks to Erin and Helaina.”
The 24-hour fundraiser was run on social media with members of the public donating £2 per number to be in with the chance of winning a prize. Many generous donations were made which brought the total up to a "magnificent" £500 which is going towards the foodbank service in Wick and Thurso.
Erin said: "We wanted to be able to help our local community at this difficult time. The Caithness people have shown amazing support to both of us since starting our businesses and it’s nice to be able to give something back."
