Caithness Family History Society’s (CFHS) May meeting will be held in Thurso and includes a talk by local writers Donald MacDonald and Ian Leith.
The CFHS meeting – held on a different day of the week and venue from the usual – is on Monday, May 8 in the West Church Hall.
Caithness men Donald MacDonald and Ian Leith will collaborate to give a talk entitled "Home and Away: Life in Caithness and Patagonia". The friends have made three visits to Patagonia and many people will be familiar with Ian’s book, "Caithness to Patagonia: Distant Lands and Close Relatives", which was published in 2016. Ian will talk about his book and its fascinating stories of the intrepid pioneers who left Caithness for a new life in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
In 2021, Donald Macdonald wrote a book about his Caithness upbringing and his life as a farmer. "Life’s Too Short For Ironing Shirts" is full of great, often humorous tales. Donald will talk about the traumatic event which lead to the book’s writing and give us a flavour of the stories it contains.
The meeting will be at 7pm on Monday, May 8 in the West Church Hall, Thurso – access from Princes Street. Please note that it is on Monday, not Tuesday, this month.
