A sheriff has ordered the personal appearance of a man police found with 25 rounds of live ammunition.
Police officers who had reason to be concerned for Adam Burrell's welfare made the discovery when they visited the 43-year-old's home in the village's Station Road, during their inquiries, on April 28, last year.
Fiscal David Barclay told Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday that the cache comprised 20, 7.26 caliber rounds and five, 5.56 caliber rounds which Burrill "should not have had in his possession" as it was contrary to the Firearms Act of 1968 (amended). There were also military service medals in the house the court was told.
Mr Barclay said that how the ammunition came into Burrill's possession was entirely consistent with the explanation he had given in a letter he had sent to the court pleading guilty.
Deferring sentence until January 24, Sheriff Neil Wilson remarked that Burrill had outlined "the various elements" concerning his possession of the ammunition, in his lengthy letter.
The details of that explanation were not given in court.
