Organisers of the Halkirk Highland Games reckon a limited-edition gin created for the occasion will go down a treat.

Forss-based North Point Distillery has produced 300 individually numbered bottles which will be on sale from the distillery's stand at the games at Recreation Park on Saturday. It is called ’e Games Gin.

The games – rated as one of the best on the Scottish circuit – will go ahead for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

Created by award-winning distiller Greg Benson, the gin is inspired by botanicals from around Halkirk parish. It seeks to celebrate the village and district of Halkirk, with images on the label reflecting traditional Highland Games activities.

North Point Distillery's commercial director Alex MacDonald said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Halkirk Highland Games, one of the leading events in the far north cultural and sporting calendar.

“This was an exciting project for the whole distillery team, allowing us to experiment with the very best botanicals that the local area has to offer and finding new ways to create a full-bodied and flavourful gin.

“The label features a range of competitors from across the games, with iconography from the heavies to cycling and Highland dancing. It even carries a special nod to the Clan Gunn who are attending in 2022."

Games committee member James Gunn said: "We approached North Point about a special-edition games gin very late in the day and were delighted when they said they could accommodate our idea.

"We have been very impressed with their enthusiasm to meet the deadline and the creative design ideas for the label. We think the finished product looks and tastes fantastic and will sell very quickly.”

North Point is a multi-award-winning distillery holding Great Taste, International Wine and Spirit Competition and sustainability awards for its range of gin and rum.

As well as being on sale at Halkirk on Saturday from the North Point stand, a small number of bottles of ’e Games Gin are available on the distillery's website. Bottles will be limited to two per customer.
