Lily celebrates birthday with festival double

YOUNG Lily Byrne had an extra special 10th birthday after winning two Caithness Music Festival trophies.

Lily has been entering the festival since she was in Primary 1 and has never won a trophy before so she and her family are delighted with her double success.

The Halkirk youngster took to the stage at Wick Assembly Rooms on Wednesday to perform in the Caithness dialect P5 and under category and her delivery of ’E Caithness Midgie wowed adjudicator Gus Mackay.

She not only won her section, taking home the James M Gunn Dialect Quaich, but the overall Caithness dialect award, the Field of Noss Quaich.

She performed her Caithness dialect piece at Thursday night’s Halkirk gala concert.
