The 2024 competition season at Wick’s St Fergus Bowling Club was opened by Liam Larnach, who threw the first jack on Saturday afternoon.

Liam lives with cerebral palsy but is a keen bowler and for the first time was able to take part by using a specially designed wheelchair, rather than being on his hands and knees. The self-propelled Para-Handy bowling wheelchair was funded by the Scottish Bowlers’ Fellowship and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor bowling greens.

It is approved by the British Wheelchair Bowls Association.

Liam, who joined St Fergus in 2008, is an honorary member of the club and takes part in competitions regularly.

In his opening speech, club president Malky Mackay thanked the Scottish Bowlers’ Fellowship's secretary John Lassa for his assistance and also Andy Semple from Para-Handy Bowling Wheelchairs.
