Members of Caithness General Hospital's League of Friends are continuing to support staff and patients despite the restrictions brought about by the pandemic.

Over the past year the group has received donations from businesses, including Inver House Distillers, and community groups, including Wick Thistle Football Club, as well as from individuals and families. This has ensured that the work of providing items for the wellbeing of patients can carry on.

Recent donations of items for various wards and departments have included a specially adapted wheelchair for use by the X-ray department, sensor pads for the Bignold Wing and TV sets for wards. In addition the group supplies emergency packs of toiletries on an ongoing basis for patients arriving as emergencies and also for those being transferred to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness at short notice.

This has been particularly beneficial to many patients as visits have been restricted due to Covid-19 rules.

League of Friends committee member Barbara Nicol said: "We are pleased to be able to provide continuing support to NHS staff and patients in these difficult times and we acknowledge the generosity of the people of Caithness, which has been shown through monetary donations.

"Our group is privileged to be involved in a voluntary capacity helping the professionals to carry out their vital work."
