Carol Grant welcomed members to the May meeting of Latheron SWI.

Apologies were received from Chris Henderson, Kerry Montgomery, Anne Sutherland and Veira Sutherland.

The minutes of the meeting held on April 13were approved by Shona Sinclair and seconded by Audrey Boyle.

The bulb show list for 2024, trophies and prize money for the 2023 bulb show were handed out.

Mrs Grant introduced Lucy Wilson from Burning Love Gifts & Designs who brought along items she had decorated in pyrography. Several of the members had a go at burning their name on a chopping board which Lucy had kindly donated to the institute.

This was followed by a demonstration of wool weaving. Lucy had several alpaca fleeces which were being woven into a cushion which was to be raffled off to raise money for the Young Farmers 100th anniversary. Again, several of the members had a trial of weaving on her peg loom.

A rug, shoulder bag and cushion she had made using the fleeces were greatly admired when passed round the members. Mrs Grant thanked Lucy for her very interesting demonstration.

Members enjoyed a lovely tea served by hostesses Jenni Smith and Pat Hendry.
