Latheron Agricultural Society's annual dinner and prize-giving was held at the refurbished Portland Hotel.

The society's president Raymond Gunn said it was a thoroughly enjoyable night and he was pleased that the event was back in the hotel at Lybster after almost 15 years.

"The evening went very well. The food was good and we were delighted to be back in the Portland after so long," he said.

More than 120 people attended the function with all ages represented for what Mr Gunn called a "very family-oriented atmosphere".

Mr Gunn's wife Nicky read an introductory speech and the guest of honour, reporter David Scott, addressed the gathering before prizes were announced by committee member John Grant and handed over by special guest Catherine MacLeod from Thrumster House.

The president remarked that it was particularly pleasing to see some of the main prizes going to entrants from the Latheron parish.
