Large show of hill lambs from Caithness and Sutherland at Quoybrae livestock centre

Quoybrae, Aberdeen & Northern Marts on Monday, August 14, sold 6799 prime and store lambs, feeding ewes and rams incorporating Dunbeath, Bettyhill, Forsinard and north-west Sutherland areas.
The overall sale average was £71.07 (-£3.57 on the year).
Cheviot Ewe lambs (831) averaged £66.19 (-£8.83) to £118 for Suffolks from Braemore (Mcgonigill), Dunbeath.
Cheviot Wedder lambs (2315) averaged £65.59 (-£3.98) to £110 for Suffolks from Murray House, Armadale.
Cross lambs (2892) averaged £80.41 (+£5.96) to £115 for Texel Ewe Lambs from Hillhead, Lybster.
Prime lambs (487) averaged 250p sold to 267p per kg for 44kg Suffolks from 27 River View, Thurso and £134 for 52kg Texels from Sibmister, Castletown.
Feeding ewes and rams (274) averaged £101.37 and sold to £184.50 for Texels from Bardnaclavan, Bridge of Westfield.
“Quoybrae witnessed a large show of hill lambs today with many lambs being considerably smaller on the year due to the weather. The top draws of ewe and wedders still commanded increased trade on the year. Prime lambs sold to a fast selling trade while feeding ewes and rams continued at recent rates.”
