Robert Coghill is delighted the road improvement at Keiss is going ahead.

A SECTION of the A99 road north of Keiss is set for improvements costing £550,000.

The work is scheduled to get under way next year.

Landward Caithness councillor Robert Coghill welcomed the decision which was made at a meeting of the Highland Council’s transport, environmental and community services committee in Inverness.

Mr Coghill is hoping a footpath can also be incorporated into the project.

He said the road improvement scheme will bring that stretch of road up to the same standard as the rest of the A99.

“There is a lot of traffic going to John O’Groats, the Castle of Mey and Gills ferry and that has been creating problems on that part of the road,” explained Mr Coghill.

“I am delighted this scheme is going ahead as it has been scheduled for a number of years and is now about to happen.”
